This year Citadel closed Victoria Park's festival weekend, although it was a one day festival, the celebrations had started off on the Friday with Lovebox festival. This was Citadel's first year as a festival, and from crowd reactions, I doubt it will be the last.
Citadel saw Bombay Bicycle Club headline one of the few festivals they are playing this year. After a massive 2014, with Mercury nominated album "So long, see you tomorrow" and the last ever headline show at Earl's Court Exhibition Center, they have slowed down on the touring this year, but still made time to headline in their hometown.
The set opened with "Overdone" letting the crowd know what they were in for, an hour of fun, dancey, indie rock music. You could tell from the looks on the band's faces they were happy to be there, which obviously had a positive effect on the crowd. The band then went into "It's alright now" a song which the whole audience was dancing to. It started with the whole crowd clapping along, and joining in with the singing. Bombay followed this with one of their most well known singles "shuffle", to crowd's disappointment, there was no surprise appearance Lucy Rose, but Liz from Cash and David, did an amazing job of filling in for her.
More songs from the third studio album, "A Different Kind Of Fix" which was obviously a crowd favourite, looking around, I could see everyone knew the words. The set also included loads of songs from the most recent album "So long, see you tomorrow" it was clear the crowd loved the more upbeat sound of this album. The band didn't only play songs from these two albums, songs from their debut, "I had the blues but I shook them loose" were included, suitable seeing as this album was influenced by growing up in London, and Citadel was celebrating the beautiful city. The set included no songs from the band's second album second album "Flaws", this could be because of the shorter set which was due to Ben Howard's hour and a half set.
The band finished on the first single of their most recent album, "Carry Me" seeing the whole crowd bounce, to such a summery song, they were a perfect band to headline such a chilled out festival, but bought the right amount of edge to make their performance stand out from anyone else's.
